Philippians 2:3-7 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
Humility is to put the other first. We need to allow our faith in God to empty us of our self-interest, so we can become others-focused. Christ thought only of us as He left heaven to be born into humanity in a lowly stable. Starting from His birth, Christ modeled humility to us. Christ did not even grasp His equality with God, He was so humble! His ultimate act of humility was to die on the cross for us. Self-sacrifice is the way of Christ. When we have the mind of Christ, we do nothing out of our own selfishness. In Christ, we are humbled to love others first and give of ourselves.
