Fruits

Galatians 5:22-25  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

God knows, better than we know, what we need to be fulfilled and fruitful for His Kingdom.   We long for His Spirit to take over our ego-filled thoughts and selfish desires.  We deeply want His blessed desires and passions to become ours.  We need spiritual transformation.  When we live by His Spirit guiding us, we are filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self-control. These fruits of God’s Spirit alive in us are all we need to live purposefully, glorifying God!

God’s hands

Psalm 31:5. Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, LORD, my faithful God.

We entrust our selves to God because He is worthy of our trust and we are weak without Him. His hands receive our trusting spirits.  He rescues and redeems us, especially in our weakest, most powerless moments. We know this because Christ, who at His weakest moment laid dying on the cross, prayed this same prayer and God redeemed Him and all of humanity (Luke 23:46: Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.).  Christ knew His Father is faithful and trustworthy. God’s hands are powerful and redemptive.  He created and He continues to transform us by His hands.  Entrust your entire being to God.  Isaiah 64:8 : Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.

Spirit of God Brings Life

Romans 8:5 (NiV)  “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.”

Either your ego or God’s Spirit can control your mind.  Your thoughts can be dominated with self interest,  or guided by the Word.  You can choose to live for selfish desires or live for God’s purposes.  You can seek self-advancement, or growth in the Spirit of our living God.  Though we are limited in our finite selves,  God’s Spirit is unlimited and empowers us, when we seek to live in harmony with His Spirit.  You have the living, breathing, empowering Spirit of God in you, children of God. The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead, the same resurrection power that brings life from death, is giving you new life! Place your focus on the Spirit of God inside you.  Choose to live freely in and by His Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:5 (MSG) “Those who trust God’s action in them find that God’s Spirit is in them—living and breathing God! Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life.”
