Treasuring the Miraculous

Luke 2:16-19

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

When we heard the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ, we undoubtedly shared our exuberance and joy, just as the shepherds announced joyfully to everyone in the town of Bethlehem about the birth of our Savior.  But Mary, His mother, received all that was happening internally – treasuring each cry of baby Jesus, each note by the glorious host of singing angels, each adoring prayer by the shepherds – and  pondered these miraculous occurrences inside her heart.  She reflected on the beauty and majesty of Christ’s coming, as the world rejoiced!

There is a time to speak with awe and love about the gospel to others, and there is a time to treasure the gospel in our own hearts and ponder the miracle that Christ invited us into relationship with Him by being born into humanity. Christmas is a time to cherish that WE ARE HIS.  The child Mary delivered is the child who delivers us. Let us ponder in our hearts the wonders of His love for us, as the whole world rejoices.
