Jesus’s followers

Mark 2:15-17 And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, ‘Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, ‘Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.’

The sick, the sad, the sinners…they followed Jesus.  He called them to come and be healed. Jesus hung out with the least of these. And, if we are honest, we all are the least of these.  Jesus is the only flawless, righteous one.  He heals us when we cannot heal ourselves. Those who think they are righteous and perfect without Christ, isolating themselves from those Christ loved during His ministry and loves -the impoverished, the sick, the addicts, the depressed – are missing out on life changing opportunities to love and be healed.  Share a meal, breaking bread, with someone who looks very different from you and see how it changes your perspective spiritually and heals your heart. Christ calls us, sinners, to follow Him and experience His deep healing in love and unity with others.
